Medicine & society..

Salam,

This is not really a honeymoon posting!! quoted from one of my friend. hurmmm, I have to agree with that.We are now reach the TENSE stage as a lot of assignments to be done and report due date with presentations will be after holiday(Now is the 6th week.7th and 8th week will be the presentation and evaluation week)

UKM student complex at Tanjung Karang

One of our group discuccion regarding specific Survey on the villagers..

However, for me,I experienced some interesting and colorful experience with this posting. First of all, it explains my curiosity of how health care system been manage in a district and kampong area till the state and national level. Our group is special because there are two Japanese (Tomomi and Mariko) students staying with us since 1st week until 5th week . We had fun with them and learn from each other about Japanese language, knowledge on Japan health care and even cooking..

vaccination at school with unit sekolah

The place we are posted to is Tanjung Karang. It is quite boring cause we are trapped in the complex and only go out for food or activities. However, i'm too occupied with activities and assignment to bother with it.

I like the fact that i have the time to jog and experienced the nature more..I love the evening scene during my jogging time at the student's complex. There are lots of herds of birds flying home to their nest. Another sceneric view is the muddy beach 30 minutes walk from our complex or (5 minutes drive). It will be nice if you can see the sunset by the beach.

tea break by the beach after survey at kampong

There are some interesting places that i haven't yet get to explore. So far, i've experienced Ikan bakar at Jeram. The restaurant is by the muddy beach and have nice panoramic view. The price is quite cheap too. I've been to kayaking at Sg Sireh (the BEST activity so far)and took pictures at paddy field of sekincan. Not to forget a few episodes of Kerepek shopping at Sekincan.

Basically..these are the honeymoon things i did during this posting. There are a few more places to explore indeed before leaving Tanjung karang...will tell more later.

EXAMS!!..sharing is caring (",)-rewrite version

salam..

weird..my recent post was deleted after i edit it..so sad,have to re-write it back..hurmm..

It feels like it was just yesterday i enter UKMMC Cheras for clinical phase of my medical year. Beig the first batch of a new program(twinning UKM-UNPAD) is challenging as we have to face new syllybuse. Here, we have seniors who 'pampered' us with a lot of help in the ward and vice versa.

I would like to give my appreciation on behalf of my firends for those who help us, the newcomers in getting through our clinical phase.Certainly pre-clinical year and clinical year are two different situation. My two previous postings (surgery and o&G) did leaved me some valueble and wonderful experience.

Thank you for the knowledge shared. I think choosing not to share is selfish. You never know the benefit of sharing which bring a lot of good things to you. However, we should share something only when we are knowledgeble on the topic.Help yourself first before you help others.

Sharing with sincerity leave satisfying effect on the giver, Sharing with force leave hatred in you, Sharing for glory won't last forever
Sharing with good intention means you care....However better sharing something than doing nothing.

I hope everyone who reads this will enjoy and start sharing

the last on call......

Salam;

Alhamdullillah.. after a few moments of frustation, i am able to finish my 5th conduct of delivery today. It was fast, i don't have to wait for long.

What i like about my last on call today is i get to witness one of the most memorable event as a muslim twice and somehow today, i touched me. Guess what it is?? It is the Azan or Iqamah dat whispered by the father to their newborn child.(Info for non muslims:It is the first act of devotion representing the baby to world as Muslim).

Another intresting thing about the two deliveries is both are having their first child and best part is looking at the reaction of the father-to-be. I always like to see couples who are waiting for their first child. Of course they'll look worried, anxious and happy at the same time.Their inexperienced self showed some wittiness in managing the situation. In a sum, these kind of reaction gave me a sort of feeling that life is meaningful(eventhough i am not the one who experienced it).

Regardless the bad experienced..i find more enjoyment in labour room because of these meaningful experience and cute babies. People who ACCEPTs to get SCOLDED are NON-EGOISTIC people.Yeah, i get scolded.Sometimes it's my fault, sometimes its' someones fault and sometimes i get scolded with non-concrete reason. The best thing to do is reflex urself back and Improve!! Whatever it is...see u again labour room during 5th year(hopefully i don't flunk somewhere in between that needs me to repeat my year3)

P/S: i have short case this thursday..which me all the BEST LUCK in the world.AMIN!!

On call & Delivery..

SAlam..

I just got back from my 3rd on call (7pm-7am). The delivery ward was cold and I was hypothermic.Better remind myself to bring sweater next time. The intake last night was little compare to my previous two on calls. The whole on-call group was quite dissapointed.

I was fortunate to be able to conduct one delivery today without have to wait more than half an hour. Yeah..we all are trying to fill up our log book. We are required to conduct 5 normal deliveries(after observed at least 3 deliveries)and watch 5 abnormal deliveries.

I only get to observed one normal delivery and one cesearian section(abnormal)during my first on call. My luck was better during my second one since I get to observed 2 normal deliveries, 1 twin delivery(abnormal)and did a few small procedures. My 11 hours wait for the primigravida(1st pregnancy mom)pays off as I get to do my first conduct.

The intake of patients during 2nd on call was high and patient keep on coming for labour. You can guess who are the most happy person in the ward...the father and us who are on-call of course.

11 hours wait was worth it....with baby Reneu..The 1st experience of conducting delivery.

Delivery is painful, yet it is a wonderful thing that women have to experince. I think, every mother is a winner. It is not easy to give a life born to this world. When you see the baby come out healthy to this world you will feel very happy for the family. Watching these adorable babies make you forget about your tiredness and exhaustion.

That's what I like about O&G posting which is the most heavy and 'feared' posting of 3 rd year.Students call it Orang-orang Garang posting as the lecturers are strict. Yes..it is tiring, demanding and you get high expectations from the lecturers and yet it is an intresting posting since you get involved with a lot of procedures and can apply what you learn from book to the real situation. Watching cute babies in between does give the some flavor to it..hehe (",)

Thats all for now. Will have a day trip to Batu Pahat for 2nd brother convocation..

BUbye surgery..Welcome O&G

SAlam..

It's already been a week i've started O&G and i've already miss surgery. However, my journey has to go on.

O&G is much more strict and sturctured compare to surgery. If the lecturer promise something they will do it. If they said the lecture is at 8am u have to be there at least 5 minutes before. To be safe at least 10minutes because i've been to a lecture where the lecturer close and lock the door 5 minutes before the lecture.

If they ask you to read on certain topic you better do if not you will 'kena' when you cannot answer your question. When you taking history(clerking) patient you have to know all about them. Make sure you find out terms that you are not sure inside the ticket(patient's record).By the way, you have to cover the beds in the ward(team leader have to divide the beds). Labour room gave me intesting experience. We can only be there during on calls.wE get 1O on calls per posting to satisfied the need of 5 conduct of normal deliveries per student. My first on call was on wednesday 7pm till 7am.We have to observe at least 3 deliveries before we can conduct with the help of the midwive and doctors

Alhamdullillah i manage to observed 1 normal delivery and 1 abnormal delivery(cesearian section). The story of my experience can be quite long...to cut it short: for the abnormal delivery..i& my partner(Mas) hav to wait for 6hours befor we go to Operation theatera(OT) Got back home at 5.30am and manage to get 1 hour sleep before Grand ward round(where we have to present case at 8am. The funny thing is..i only feel sleepy& tired on the next day..hehe

What i like about O&G is there are a lot of things that students are allowed to do or directed to do(log book). The feeling of involvement is there which surgery posting lack of. Next is the CUTE BABIES of course!!..really release ur tension when you see them.

LOVE to see couples who get their first born baby. I can feel their 'aura' of excitement and joy. SO...SWEET.It touch my heart till it tears(in joy) me a bit(nasib baik org tak perasan).hehe(",)

SO...far, adala a few unpleasent moments..however i have to take it positively because mostly it comes from my own mistake. Time management is very important. Managing stress also become a crucial factor of survival in medicine world. Recently, i heard 3 of my coursemate decided to change their coure. However, better back off if you feel medicine doesn/t suits you. Because medicine is about a lot SACRIFICE!!

Wasalam

STigma on Doctors..

Salam..

Finally, i manage to import internet connection from KL..long story..no need to elobrate. Now I'm in Malacca. In two days I'll start the O&G posting which is the toughest posting of 3 year..Hopefully I can cope with that.

Today i would like to write about Stigma on doctors..

When you feel something wrong with you...do you straight away seek help from the doctor?
Or..you decided to wait untill i resolve by itself...
or... you decided to do self-treatment by taking painkillers or do anything that might relief the problem..

well, majority will prefer to choose those two later options than seeing doctors.. So, far non of my family members are doctors yet. Only me and my 2 cousins are still in medical school. Some of my family members are the typical people who are afraid of doctors. For them, doctors are only for severe cases. If possible, they want to avoid seeing one.

This is one the reason why people delay their treatment. When they decided to see doctor their problem has already worsen or only can be relief but not totally cured..

WHY are they afraid to the DOCTORS?? certain people even develop white-coat syndrome where their blood pressure rise up in the presence of the doctor.

Public/Patients' stigma on doctors:1. They like to prescribe patients pain killers, might as well I just take pain killers and save my money, time and energy of going to the clinic.
2. They might ask me to undergo invasive procedure like taking my blood, thus doctors=dracula..hehe
3. the point above can also mean DOCTOR=PAIN4. Doctors are my chance to get extra holidays-Medical certificate (MC)5. When you see them, you can be diagnosed with some serious/chronic illness
6. Doctors are INCONSIDERATE when they ask you to STOP doing things you like.
7. They are harsh when you dissobey them
8. WHen I meet the doctor, he'll be 'the BOSS'..no point of voicing up my opinion or decision.
9. I will get sick if I see doctors.
10.If you see doctors..it means something is WRONG with u

So, can we say it is the Public/Patient's fault to have these stigma??
NOpe..

It all come back to us DOCTORS and FUTURE DOCTORS on how we should behave in treating them appopriately and ethically.

However there are other reasons why people didn't want to seek early help from doctors. It doesn't rest on the stigma on doctors alone.. there are other reasons also like patient's education, social life and economical background.
